Good points, Peter. You picked my favorite -- it's always a treat when people fall asleep during my presentations. ;-) I was thinking about the AI / real participant question as I was writing -- about how the best presentation rehearsals involve other people. And then I thought about how infrequent it is that in real life we really have others to rehearse with. The question I wrestled with was, "So why would that be any different in a virtual environment?" I suppose if people joined a group or community to support each other's rehearsals, real audience members could go to the scheduled virtual rehearsal room at an agreed-upon time, and give real feedback to the speaker. That would be ideal.

Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Good suggestions Erica. Some of the functionality could be delivered by a Holodeck that rezzes the different meeting spaces and audiences for you. At a minimum you probably want one real person reviewing your presentation and a lot of NPCs doing random things to put you off your game - falling asleep, doing their email, preening their hair, whatever. This is something that could be done fairly quickly. The AI miracle will take a little longer.

My presentation hero would also do mixed reality presentations. I'd quite like to do live video insertion (using Chroma keying) into scenarios, charts and other objects presented in Second Life, in the style of http://www.on10.net/blogs/tina/Blended-Reality-A-look-at-bringing-Second-Life-into-Real-Life/.
